The Indika Alliance Launch Event – June 17th, 2015
On June 17th the Indika Alliance formally launched as a global non-profit focused on human rights issues for domestic workers in India. Under a warm evening sky in Minneapolis, Minnesota, more than 140 guests gathered to celebrate the kickoff of our 501(c)3 organization and learn more about the mission to advance rights for India’s domestic workers and prevent the labor trafficking of children and young women.
Headlining the evening was keynote speaker Dr. Clarence B. Jones, a distinguished civil rights leader, and former chief counsel and speechwriter for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Jones also serves as Vice Chair on the Indika Alliance board.
Drawing from his years of experience at the front lines of the civil rights movement, Dr. Jones said the time is now to raise awareness of the silent millions of women and girls working in domestic work in India, in many cases without basic human rights, proper working conditions or access to education.
The celebratory event raised more than $100,000 dedicated over a three-year span to increase awareness of, and provide direct social services to, women and girls currently in abusive domestic work situations.
Join with the Indika Alliance and show your support of women and girls in India.
